Vintage Gilchrist #31 Ice Cream Scoop - Size 20

This old ice cream dipper is a No.31 Gilchrist Automatic Ice Cream Disher. Gilchrist's were used in most of the soda fountain shops to scoop your favorite ice cream. It was probably the most popular and commonly used scoop in the industry. This is a size 20 round bowl meaning twenty scoops to the quart. It is nickel plated except for the bowl and scraper which are made of German Silver and it has a wood handle. The thumb lever is marked "Gilchrist's No. 31. The scraper inside the bowl is marked "20". The patent for these scoops was issued in 1915. The mechanism works well.

It is in very good condition with almost no wear. There Is very little sign of this ever being used. It is not beat up or abused like so many old Gilchrists. It has not been replated and is not lacquered. It measures about 10 3/4" in length and the bowl measures about 2 1/8" in diameter.
