A glorious example of a German Fashion Doll which is clearly a French Poupee Peau Fashion inspired doll. At the time of this doll's production, circa 1870s, German firms were in direct competition with the French factories and this doll has all the qualities of a Jumeau fashion.

Her swivel head has the finest and palest bisque with original cork pate, on perfectly matched bisque breast plate. Her wispy gray and brown multi-stroked brows are done in the French style, her almond shaped eye cuts are outlined and have individually painted and very fine lashes. Her stunning paperweight eyes are blue and has the deepest spiral threading possible, with deeper blue outlining the irises. She has a gorgeous, even gaze. Her closed mouth has a deeper separating line and her lips are shaded with a space left between them. She has eye corner and nostrils accents as well, and her ears are pierced.

Marks: "911 #7" on crown rim and shoulder plate. Alt, Beck and Gottschalck, circa 1870s.

Her center parted mohair wig is a pale brown and has the original ribbon accent still attached. It is difficult to tell if it is the original wig or not and we can't be sure, so to be conservative we will say that it may be a quality replacement.

Her gusset-jointed body appears to be original to the doll and has some patches here and there. We believe the arms have been improperly re-attached, probably during a leather repair. If the shoulder plate were to be removed, the arms could be properly attached under it before returning the head to the body. This is something we would recommend having done. Otherwise, the body is excellent and the pale bisque lower arms and hands still retain their beautiful rosy accenting.

The doll has her likely original antique three piece undergarment set that buttons together. The pantaloons button onto the chemise, which then buttons to the half-slip. All pieces match with blue silk ribbons and lavish laces, and all are in excellent condition.

Condition: Excellent; no chips, cracks, or repairs to the bisque. Patching as described on the leather body.

Stunning German fashion doll in an excellent size, is ready to be dressed and displayed.
