Lovely and very large, 29" Kestner girl with a beautiful, likely original costume.
Gorgeous bisque with big brown blown glass sleep eyes, original plaster pate (never removed), human hair wig. Beautiful facial painting with molded and feathered brows, painted upper and lower lashes, accented eye corners and nostrils and shaded, outlined lips, four upper porcelain teeth, chin dimple. Her modeling is very crisp and detailing soft and lovely with a beautiful innocent expression.
Mark: "made in // L Germany. 15. // 171. // 76" incised on back of head.
Original wood and composition ball-jointed body with original finish has varnish that has darkened over the years but the finish is original and the red outlines of fingers and toes is still in tact. The left had has two re-glued fingers and one missing finger and other than some typical joint wear, it is in great condition. As you can see in our photos, the stringing is excellent and the doll stands well on it's own for photos without a stand.
The wonderful costume is the icing on the cake with her red cotton dress with cream banding accents, ruffled sleeve caps over short sleeves, and pleated skirt over antique bloomers, newer (very high quality) leather shoes and stockings. The dress buttons down the back with a hidden placket and is beautifully made. In our opinion, there is nothing like a wonderful red dress on an antique doll.
Condition: Excellent; no chips, cracks, or repairs to the bisque head. Eye wax is worn away but of course does not show when the eyes are open; one missing finger and two re-glued, yellowed body finish. Book value is over $950 in this size and we have priced the doll to compensate for her minor flaws.
Lovely presentation in this very large, display ready German girl who has lots of character and an innocent expression.
