Old Soul Vintique Jewelry specializes in unusual and collectible Vintage and Antique Fine and costume jewelry. Necklaces, bracelets, pins, earrings in virtually any style and era all have the common thread of timeless glory. All of Old Soul Vintique's jewelry has had at least one prior owner and the life of that person, her time, her place, is embedded in beauty of each piece, as is the vision of the designer and the skill of the artisan. Whether it is a carved Whitby jet bracelet used as Mourning jewelry or the embellishment of pearls, emeralds, diamonds, rubies, and gemstones, such as turquoise, coral, amethyst, onyx that thrilled Victorians, each piece of jewelry is a more than a bauble. It is a piece of living history. How else to consider the glorious metal work in silver, vermeil and gold of Art Nouveau, or the majestic line and form of Art Deco design? The turn of the century saw the Victorian’s summer souvenirs of Italian vacations in the prizing of gorgeous carved shell cameos. And as Whitby jet prices rose, French jet established a benchmark for the artistry of glass, which the Czech elevated to untold heights with Czech crystal, prism carved crystal beads and jadeite. These are all the aspirational pieces of living history. Yet there is also laudable cultural history in the artistry of Native American turquoise and silver jewelry, which is indelibly woven into the fabric of jewelry’s global legacy.
Technological innovation introduced the world to the wonders brought us the wonders of Celluloid and Bakelite in all of its myriad colors and forms. No matter how fab, nothing could stop the impact progress of the human kind. In came the 30s and 40s and the empowerment of women, giving them the power to dazzle and shine, with majestic rhinestone and faux gold artistry of designers such as Miriam Haskell, Trifari, Panetta, Coro, Hobe, Ciner Lisner and so many more who remain nameless but no less lauded. In the 50s and 60s affordability was a gift to all women and Monet and Napier lead the mass production of fashion jewelry for all. In the meantime Germany was busy in the perfecting their plastics and some of the least noted but most fab fakes are their contribution to the art of being bejeweled. And who can forget about the 60s when there was no such thing as too big or just too too? Goodbye to screw backs and clip backs and make way for the push of the straightforward post. Onward and upward. Anything goes and went and that takes us right up to the 80s glam in the techno age. Did the evolution of jewelry stop there, in a whirl of mass production? Absolutely not! One by one, designers and artisans are still breaking the mold of the expected.
The best news, though, is that those who wear these or any jewels from no matter which era or style, infuse it with their own history and so it lives on, like a chain letter through the generations.
