Oil on canvas, 11 3/4" by 15 1/2" (15" by 19" including the simple wood frame), signed in red at lower right by the artist LOUIS (LUIGI) PAPALUCA. Papaluca is well known for his depictions of the great sailing ships, and paintings show up at auctions all over Europe and the USA. This example is quite typical of his work as it's competently executed, with touches of gum arabic strategically placed to accentuate certain areas like the rigging and the body of the ship. Condition is excellent and this is ready for the wall. The artist's work appears at many auctions in Europe and America. I'm not sure I believe the "1890-1934" birth/death dates for this artist, as this work and others I've seen are clearly executed after the 1930's. See another example by this artist in my shop, and hundreds of other works as well. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates.
