Bacchantes - the Maenads were women who followed Bacchus, the god of wine and revelry, temporarily leaving behind their proscribed roles of wife, sister, daughter, mother, when in synch with the deity. This necklace evokes the spirit of those women - the pearls, which can be seen as symbols of the love women give to others...multi-layered, beautiful...form the chain from which drop points of rough-hewn amethyst gems, themselves stones evocative of the wine god. This necklace is a perfect marriage of devotion to others and to the self. The amethyst gems hang from gold-filled wire between fascinatingly baroque freshwater potato pearls - each is different and all are marked with the love rings that show natural, organic growth. Bright 22 karat gold over sterling silver vermeil discs sit between the stones and provide richness and depth. The necklace finishes with an ornate and substantial vermeil rope toggle clasp. Complimentary (and complementary) earrings feature a single amethyst point hanging beneath a smooth freshwater pearl and vermeil accents. This set is a metaphor in the making...
The necklace measures a generous 19.5" in length; the earrings drop 1.5" from gold-filled ball posts. The set ships in a gift box.
