Thank You for a successful inaugural year on Ruby Lane - Wishing you and yours the very best in 2009!
A fabulous piece of vintage Nippon in Cobalt Blue. This porcelain creation features gold moriage designs that include beading, ornamental scrolls, and linear patterns. In contrast to the cobalt, vibrant burnt-orange poppies rest upon a white porcelain surface with formality and elegance. The floral array is shadowed by lovely shades of green leaves, accented with gold beading. Gold also outlines delicate light brown leaves with subtle but effective detailing. .
The base is skirted and the curved handle matches the finial. Both are equally detailed and compliment this piece with distinction. Truly, an eye-catching Chocolate Pot to be displayed with the same pride that a talented Nippon artist exuded in this piece.
Backstamp: Cherry Blossom Mark 4 in blue. Nippon Hand Painted. Raised circle. c.1890-1921.
Dimensions: 9 3/4” H (base to finial) x 7 ¼” (handle to spout) x 6” w (at base)
Condition: Very Good. Incredible overall luster. 99% gold detailing intact (1% loss inside spout where it meets the underside of lid and is not seen; most likely from use). On back of pot, cobalt shows two minor manufacturing flaws on base & in center of handle where glaze did not meet the mold. Exquisite vintage piece in overall ‘very good’ condition.
